Why Christopher Hitchens Isn't Funny
I don't know if anyone caught Christopher Hitchens piece in Vanity Fair about why women are not funny. I'm not sure who he's been hanging out with, because most of the women I know are much funnier than their angry male counterparts (Just look at Hollywood meltdowns -- Michael Richards? Mel Gibson? Anne Heche had a breakdown a few years back, and sure she might have spoken to aliens or something, but she certainly didn't lash out at anyone for race or religion). In fact, I think it's probably why women live longer - we laugh more at ourselves and not at the expense of others.
If you don't have time to read the whole article (personally, I struggled to make it through all the pompous pontificating), check out Salon's take on it and also a funny rebuttal from a man on the topic, Nathan Whitlock. Who of course by being Canadian, probably wonders why American's aren't funny. Fortunately, I don't think we can claim Hitch as one of our own. I believe he's from across the pond. Which makes it even stranger because there is no one funnier than British Chick Lit authors.
