Now that we're about to launch into the summer season, I'm sure you've seen all of the ads about how to get a beach-ready body. Well, we know that being truly healthy is more than about looking good - it's about creating a sustainable plan that includes healthy eating, physical activity, and emotional wellness.
I'm excited to tell you about a NEW resource for healthy eating: Clean Plates N.Y.C. - A Guide to the Healthiest Tastiest Restaurants in Manhattan. Too often, healthy eating is linked with images of sacrifice -- a pile of sprouts or a single pea resting on a plate. Well, two New Yorkers - Jared Koch (a nutritionist/wellness counselor) and his co-author, Alex Van Buren (food/restaurant critic) scoured Manhattan to select the 75 healthiest, tastiest restaurants -- from fine dining to fast food.
I had the pleasure to speak with Jared recently, and have created a podcast of our interview. In the podcast, Jared shares the philosophy behind the book [to help us make better, informed choices when we dine out] and the criteria and process by which they selected the restaurants [all were personally visited and screened].
In addition to the restaurant reviews, Jared also shares tips (over 50 pages) on how you can transform your life once you see how eating healthier can be delicious, fun and simple. Without giving too much away from the podcast or the book, I'd like to give you a sneak peek at Jared's Five Precepts for a Healthier Diet:
-
There is no "one right way" to eat for everyone [known as Bio-Individuality]
-
A majority of your diet should consist of natural, high-quality whole foods
-
Increasing consumption of plant-based foods (along with seeds, nuts and fruits) will be more beneficial to your health
-
Consume high-quality, sustainably raised animal-based foods in moderation (if you choose)
-
Reduce intake of artificial, chemical-laden processed foods (as well as caffeine, sugar, alcohol)
Doesn't seem like rocket science? Well, what really makes it stick is that the book also has a chapter called: In Practice: Making it All Work with specific tips and suggestions to help you be more successful.
Take a listen to the podcast and let me know your thoughts and feedback. Regards, Coach Colette
